The Inn is in a gated community, where several wealthy landowners share the costs of protective walls around the entrance and a some basic roadside maintenance. Each owner has their own fence and gate inside the grounds too. The Inn itself comprises of 4 buildings in varying states of repair that are mostly connected by covered walkways - which present great opportunities to experience the frequent and dramatic downpours.
It's a quickly evolving site, on the one hand because matter is cycled at an astounding pace up here and hurricanes keep everything uncertain. Also, Bill and Laurie have a solid history (40 in 9 yrs.) of voluntourist's (like me!) who've come to lend some labor onsite. They've worked on all sorts of projects, varying in difficulty from land clearing, building construction and roofing, to landscaping, guest relations and mosaicing. How intensive my project will be, is yet to be determined...
